Palm Springs Retreat
Perched high above the Coachella Valley, Palm Springs Retreat is a stunning testament to modern desert living. This interior design project, a departure from our firm’s signature Pacific Northwest style, embodies a blend of modern luxury and the natural beauty of the desert landscape.
The homeowners, a vibrant retired couple deeply ingrained in the desert community, sought a home that would cater to their love for family gatherings and entertaining. With a passion for golf, tennis, and pickleball, they envisioned a space that would not only embrace the surrounding natural beauty but also provide a luxurious retreat for their family and friends.
Originally a dated Hollywood regency meets Asian-inspired 1960s home, Palm Springs Retreat underwent a remarkable transformation. The design team, in collaboration with Palm Springs architect Javier Segura, reimagined the space, relocating the kitchen to capture breathtaking mountain and valley views, while repositioning bedrooms and adding a guest casita. The result is a modern oasis that seamlessly integrates with its natural surroundings.
Drawing inspiration from the desert and mountain landscape, the design palette features earthy neutral tones such as gold, taupe, sage, and deep palm green, with accents of ochre and sienna. This thoughtful selection of colors and materials creates a harmonious blend between indoor and outdoor living spaces. Each space, from the inviting living room with its bronze-finished fireplace to the stylish bar inspired by boutique hotels, invites you to relax and unwind in luxurious comfort.
The Interior Design of the living room at Palm Springs Retreat is a study in sophisticated comfort. The bronze-finished fireplace and cement chimney anchor the room, while the 10-foot velvet sofas offer ample seating for guests. Swivel chairs offer flexibility, allowing guests to take in the breathtaking views or engage in lively conversation. Above the fireplace, an oil on canvas artwork by Michael Dailey from 1966 adds a timeless artistic flair, complementing the room’s luxurious yet welcoming atmosphere. The painting’s hand-made touch and organic vibe provide a beautiful contrast to the room’s contemporary, clean-lined furniture, adding depth and character to the space.
Adjacent to the living room, the bar at Palm Springs Retreat is inspired by boutique hotels, offering a stylish escape for intimate gatherings. The interior palette of moody stone, oak, and bronze materials creates a subtle and satisfying ambiance, inviting guests to unwind and enjoy the desert vistas through the expansive windows.
The primary bedroom at Palm Springs Retreat is a serene sanctuary, designed to embrace the natural beauty of the surroundings. Sheer curtains layer the windows, offering a variety of views, from distant mountain canyons to intimate grounds. The walk-out walled shower backdrop in the primary bath brings a warmth and earthiness to the cool vibes of the stone environment.
The reconfigured pool boasts a lap pool, wading area, and sun shelf, inviting you to take a refreshing dip or simply soak up the sun. Surrounding the pool is an expansive outdoor living space, thoughtfully designed to be the focal point for family gatherings and entertaining. With its breathtaking views and luxurious amenities, the pool design at Palm Springs Retreat is truly a haven for both relaxation and recreation.
