Hood Canal
New Construction
Carved into level terraces of land that descend from forest to ocean, this house creates a level of ambiguity about the meaning of indoors and out. The house and landscape are organized around a series of parallel board-formed concrete walls that retain earth, create indoor and outdoor spaces, and organize movement through and between. Heavy timber structural elements support a green roof planted with native species, further blending the structure into its surroundings. Light and structure combine to create a sense of grounding while at the same time creating a sense of freedom and discovery.
