The den exudes a modern English clubroom vibe with vintage Swedish club chairs, a large photograph by Isaac Layman, and Tom Dixon brass accents.

Renovation, Interiors

A young couple moving back into the husband’s childhood home—a historic lakefront Tudor with a dark, Gothic interior—had ambitions for a light and bright contemporary environment. Responsibility for a generational change of stewardship brought emotional as well as design challenges, but with respectful intentions the client and design team were able to shift the vocabulary and spirit of the once formal space. Layering the environment with new materials such as marble, bronze and light painted finishes enabled the excessive ornamentation—found in arches, paneling and period tile—to be reimagined. With a focus on comfort, scale and sculptural form, custom contemporary furnishings helped connect the clients’ desire for modern living with the storied history of the home.

The living room showcases a custom Minotti sectional, marble coffee table, Mohair-covered Edward Wormley chairs, and custom metal cube table.
The dining room features patterned rice cloth walls and a custom walnut and brass dining table. Italian and Spanish midcentury chairs were reupholstered in leather and linen.
A wall-sized oil painting by Jordan Kasey adds depth and impact to Dining Room.
The entry hall holds a monumental Lindsey Adelman light fixture above a HP-designed bronze handrail and delicate brass and slump glass console
A new integrated-marble powder room was added to the entry.
The kitchen features a built-in banquette and has a bright and airy feel.
The covered terrace now serves as an adjacent al fresco bar and cocktail lounge. The fresh matte gray paint next to classic brick creates a striking contrast.
A small under-stair storage room transformed into a chic wine storage area using wood slatted paneling and modern lighting.
