Arrow Bay
The building’s exterior draws inspiration from the timeless architecture of the English Cotswolds, with steel windows and ashlar stone, while reflecting the palette and sensibility of the Northwest. Strict shoreline regulations and site constraints required us to work largely within the original footprint, the design centers around a grand great room overlooking both the cove and the Sound, with views extending out to the sandy spit. A smaller, intimate gathering space offers a cozy atmosphere with a piano, TV, and a sheltered patio at the water’s edge.
Inside, the design embraces tradition with a modern twist, highlighting rich materials in key areas. A standout feature from the original home, the grand cedar shakes that line the entry walls, are reused to celebrate the home’s Pacific Northwest setting under a canopy of trees.
A slight expansion away from the water improves the entry and mudroom experience, where the cedar shakes of the original home add warmth and character. The nearby powder room is bold and refined, with blackened plaster walls. The expanded layout provides space for three en-suite bedrooms on the top floor.
Echoing the theme of reinvention, the carriage house retains its original footprint while expanding to a full two floors, offering a welcoming retreat for guests. Its exterior becomes a quiet shadow in the trees, allowing the main house to take prominence.
